The new cabinet will also be formed through a voting process, according to Sudhan Gurung, a leading figure in the Gen-Z movement. Preparations for the internal voting have already begun.
Earlier, before proposing former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as Prime Minister, the Gen-Z group had selected her through a “virtual” vote on Discord. In that poll, Karki secured 50 percent of the votes. The Discord polls function similarly to voting features on platforms like X and Facebook.
Following the Gen-Z protests, discussions on the way forward and the formation of a new government were organized through a Discord group called Youth Against Corruption.
At one point on Wednesday, more than 10,000 participants joined the discussion simultaneously, which was livestreamed on YouTube, Facebook, and covered by various media outlets.
During these sessions, Gen-Z activists have been practicing democratic engagement by taking turns to provide suggestions, answer questions and comments, and share real-time updates with participants.
