A new government is set to be formed in Madhesh Province excluding the two major political parties, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML. Five other political parties — the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LoSPA), Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), Janamat Party, CPN (Maoist Centre), and CPN (Unified Socialist) — have agreed to form a coalition government.
Jitendra Sonar (Sonal) from the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party has been chosen to lead the new government. The Madhesh Provincial Assembly has a total of 107 members, with 54 required for a majority. The coalition will submit its claim to form the government with the support of 56 members.
Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari had given political parties until 4 PM today to submit their claims for government formation. Earlier, Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh resigned after addressing the provincial assembly session called for a vote of confidence.
