New Diamond secured the title of the Sher Bahadur Khadka Memorial National Women’s Volleyball Tournament by defeating departmental team Nepal Police on Saturday.
In the final held at the National Sports Council (NSC) Covered Hall in Tripureshwor, New Diamond beat Police 3–1 in sets. New Diamond won the first and second sets 25–22 and 25–18. Police bounced back to take the third set 25–15, pushing the match into a fourth set. However, New Diamond made a strong comeback to clinch the fourth set 27–25 and seal the championship.
With the victory, New Diamond received a cash prize of NPR 500,000, while runners-up Nepal Police were awarded NPR 250,000. APF finished third to claim NPR 125,000, and the Army team, finishing fourth, received NPR 65,000.
New Diamond’s Pratibha Mali was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament and received NPR 50,000 in cash along with a trophy sponsored by Highlife. APF’s Mina Sunar was adjudged Best Spiker. New Diamond’s Sumitra Regmi, who had earlier been honored with the Sher Bahadur Khadka Special Award during the tournament opening, was named Best Blocker. New Diamond’s Pragati Nath won the Best Setter award, while Police players Shantikalā Tamang and Punam Chand were named Best Libero and Best Server respectively. New Diamond’s Kumar Rai was recognized as the Best Coach.
All category award winners received NPR 25,000 each in cash. The organizers also announced that Barahi Hotel and Sarangkot Mountain Lodge will provide gift hampers to the award recipients. Additionally, each ‘Player of the Match’ was awarded NPR 15,000 in cash.
