Newly appointed Minister for Health and Population, Dr. Sudha Sharma Gautam, has directed ministry employees to maintain financial and administrative transparency. She issued the directive during a discussion with ministry staff immediately after assuming office.
Minister Gautam warned that financial irregularities and corruption would not be tolerated at any level within the ministry. She also instructed all branches and departments under the ministry to ensure citizen-friendly service delivery.
She emphasized that causing unnecessary delays and hassles for citizens during service delivery is also a form of corruption, warning staff to avoid such practices.
Minister Gautam said, “I do not want to hear of corruption occurring at any level. No financial or administrative wrongdoing will be tolerated. Making service-seekers suffer or practicing favoritism are also forms of corruption. We must be careful to prevent such acts. When I worked as the Secretary of this ministry, fighting corruption was my biggest challenge. I did everything I could administratively, but political issues cannot always be handled administratively, so I decided it was right to resign.”
Dr. Gautam, a former Health Secretary, had also previously served as an advisor to then Health Minister Gagan Thapa.
