Newly appointed Finance Minister Rameshwar Khanal officially assumed office on Monday. After taking the oath of office and secrecy earlier in the day, he arrived at the Ministry of Finance in Singha Durbar to take charge.
Khanal, a noted expert in financial administration and former Finance Secretary, is widely recognized for his role in advancing economic reforms in Nepal. Many of his reform initiatives are regarded as significant milestones in the country’s economic history. His work has left a lasting impact on financial discipline, revenue collection, investment climate, and overall economic transparency.
In the past, Khanal’s name often surfaced during discussions about appointing the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, with many hoping to see him in that role. However, due to political power-sharing, he never received the position. Following the recent Gen-Z movement, he has now been entrusted with overseeing the nation’s finances.
Minister Khanal has also announced that he will not accept personal facilities such as private security guards and official vehicles.
Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Bishwanath Paudel was also present during his assumption of office ceremony.
