Newly appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs Balananda Sharma has taken the oath of office and secrecy before President Ram Chandra Paudel. He was sworn in at a special ceremony held today at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki appointed Sharma as Foreign Minister earlier today. With the expansion of the Council of Ministers, the Karki-led government has now become a 15-member cabinet.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Karki, Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, senior government officials, heads of diplomatic missions, security officials, and chiefs and high-ranking officials of constitutional bodies.
Former Nepal Army Lieutenant General Sharma had earlier served as the coordinator of the Secretariat of the then Army Integration Special Committee. He has also served as a Force Commander of the United Nations peacekeeping mission and is currently the Chairperson of the Defence University.
