Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki has pledged to raise the morale of police personnel and fulfill the expectations of both the government and the general public.
Speaking briefly after receiving his rank insignia during a special ceremony held today at the Ministry of Home Affairs, IGP Karki emphasized the need for strong leadership and collective effort within the police organization.
“It is the shared responsibility of the government and the Nepal Police to build a high-morale, capable, and technologically adaptive police force that can effectively address evolving patterns of crime and security challenges, as well as meet public expectations for good governance,” Karki stated.
He highlighted that, despite recent security challenges following the Gen Z movement, the police swiftly mobilized to ensure there were no security voids and that public safety was maintained. He also noted that the prompt restoration of police structures and services underscored the organization’s resilience and dedication.
Expressing gratitude to the government for entrusting him with the leadership of the police organization, Karki reflected on his 28 years of service in the force.
During the ceremony, Home Secretary Rameshwar Dangal officially conferred the rank insignia upon IGP Karki. The appointment followed the retirement of IGP Chandra Kubar Khapung, who completed his 30-year service term.
The government selected Karki, the most senior Additional Inspector General (AIG), as the new chief of Nepal Police.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Investigation Director of the National Investigation Department Tekendra, senior officials from the Armed Police Force, Additional Inspectors General, and high-ranking Home Ministry officials.
