Newly appointed Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, Jitendra Prasad Sonal, has taken the oath of office and secrecy.
At a ceremony held on Thursday at the Office of the Province Chief in Janakpurdham, Sonal — a provincial assembly member from the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) Nepal — took the oath in the Bhojpuri language before Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari.
Province Chief Bhandari had appointed Sonal as the Chief Minister on Wednesday evening under Article 168(2) of the Constitution of Nepal, based on the support of 56 provincial assembly members from five parties.
Sonal’s appointment marks the beginning of a new coalition-led government in Madhesh Province.
