Newly appointed Speaker of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly, Ramashish Yadav, assumed office on Monday. Taking charge at the Provincial Assembly office in Janakpur, Speaker Yadav said he would perform his duties impartially as a common guardian of the entire Assembly rather than as a representative of any political party.
He stated that promoting dialogue and cooperation among political parties would be one of his key priorities. “Differences of opinion are natural, but cooperation is indispensable,” he said, adding that he would move forward in coordination with all parties for the overall interest of the province.
Speaker Yadav said that issues related to Madhesh, including inclusion, good governance, access to education and healthcare, job creation, and challenges in border areas, would be raised on the parliamentary agenda with priority.
Emphasizing the need for effective oversight of the executive by the Provincial Assembly, he said the legislature must be strengthened on matters such as budget implementation, transparency in public expenditure, and improvement in the quality of service delivery.
He reaffirmed his commitment to running the Assembly in an effective, accountable, and dignified manner in line with democratic values and norms. “The Speaker’s chair stands above political interests and biases. It will be my responsibility to ensure full compliance with the Constitution, laws, and parliamentary procedures and make the Assembly accountable to the people,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of discipline, punctuality, and a culture of healthy debate in the Assembly, Speaker Yadav urged lawmakers to play a constructive role. He also said the Speaker’s role would be made more effective by activating parliamentary committees and facilitating in-depth discussions, amendments, and consensus-building on bills.
