
Nine aspirants of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) visited party chairman Ravi Lamichhane at Nakkhu Prison ahead of the Rupandehi-3 by-election. Lamichhane, who is in custody over a cooperative fraud case, was recently transferred from Bhairahawa to Nakkhu.
The party is preparing to announce one of the aspirants as its candidate today, with a party secretariat meeting scheduled to finalize the selection.
The shortlisted aspirants include central party member Kusum Maharjan, Rupandehi-3 regional chairperson Madhu Aryal, Sulabh Kharel from Butwal Semlar who recently returned from the U.S., Parthivendra Upadhyay, Dr. Lekhajung Thapa, Gyan Poudel, Jeet Bahadur Gupta from Kothimai, Rachana Chhetri, and Punam Kumari Agrawal. Except for Kusum, Madhu, Sulabh, and Jeet Bahadur, the remaining five are from Bhairahawa.
The by-election has been scheduled by the Election Commission for Kartik 17 following the death of RSP’s Deepak Bohara, the elected representative from Rupandehi-3.
