Candidate nominations for the National Assembly member elections are being registered nationwide today. The Election Commission has scheduled the National Assembly elections for Magh 11, through which 18 vacant seats in the upper house will be filled.
According to the Election Commission, candidates can file their nominations at the offices of the concerned election officers from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm today. The Commission had earlier published the voter list on Poush 19 and, after verifying whether any claims or objections were filed, released the final voter list on Tuesday.
As per the election schedule, complaints against candidate nominations can be filed on Poush 24. Candidates may withdraw their nominations on Poush 27, and the final list of candidates will be published on the same day in the afternoon. Election symbols will be allotted to candidates on Poush 28.
For the National Assembly elections, members of the Provincial Assemblies as well as mayors, deputy mayors, chairpersons, and vice-chairpersons of local levels are designated as voters. The Election Commission has already made public the number of voters and vote weight based on the National Population Census 2078.
The term of 18 National Assembly members will expire from Falgun 20. According to constitutional provisions, the Election Commission stated that the election is being held on time to ensure the continuity of the National Assembly’s structure.
