Oman and Nepal have secured their places in next year’s ICC T20 World Cup, to be held in India and Sri Lanka, with two matches still remaining.
In Wednesday’s ICC T20 World Cup Asia–East Asia Pacific Qualifier Super Six match, Qatar — which had lost all its previous games — defeated Japan by three wickets. Despite Qatar’s win, Oman and Nepal remain at the top of the points table and have confirmed their qualification.
Both teams, who had carried two points each from the group stage, remain unbeaten so far with six points each. Based on net run rate, Oman lead Nepal — Oman’s NRR is 1.024 while Nepal’s is 0.357.
The two teams are set to face each other on Wednesday evening in their third Super Six match. The top three teams from this round will qualify for the World Cup.
Currently, the UAE, Japan, and Qatar each have two points, while Samoa have none. Even if UAE, Japan, and Qatar win their remaining matches, they can reach only four points — not enough to overtake Oman and Nepal. Therefore, Oman and Nepal’s qualification remains intact, while the other four teams will compete for the remaining one spot.
