One person involved in the robbery at SBI Bank located in Ghyanglekh Rural Municipality–2 of Sindhuli has been arrested along with the vehicle used in the crime.
According to the Sindhuli District Police Office, the robbery took place at around 7:00 pm. Following the incident, police immediately launched an investigation and intensified search operations, said Superintendent of Police Lal Dhwaj Suvedi.
Police have taken into custody a Tata Sumo vehicle used by the robbers as well as its driver. The driver claimed that masked individuals boarded the vehicle saying they were going to attend a wedding and that he was unaware of their intentions. However, police said further questioning is underway.
Local residents reported that a group of masked individuals entered the bank, assaulted the security guard, held bank staff hostage, looted cash, and fled the scene.
On Tuesday evening, a six-member masked group looted a total of NPR 310.95 million from the bank and went into hiding. During a search operation shortly after the incident, police recovered NPR 18.01 million from a nearby forest, SP Suvedi confirmed. The search for the remaining suspects is ongoing.
