During a drug control operation in Rupandehi District, police opened fire, injuring one person and arresting three others.
The injured has been identified as Bishal Yadav of Rohini Rural Municipality–2, Khurhuriya. He sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and is receiving treatment at Bhim Hospital in Bhairahawa.
According to police, the incident occurred after receiving information about drug trafficking in Rohini Rural Municipality–4, Kotahawa. Police attempted to stop three individuals riding a motorcycle, but they tried to flee. When officers attempted to take control of the situation, the suspects allegedly threw stones at the police, prompting officers to fire warning shots and then open fire.
Following the incident, Bishal Yadav along with Arun Kumar and Vinay Pandey from Maharajganj, India, were arrested. Police reported recovering a large quantity of drugs from the motorcycle they were riding.
The seized drugs include hundreds of ampoules of Phenergan, Diazepam, and Brufen. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
Meanwhile, in the Gaushala–Pingalasthan area of Kathmandu, police also fired shots and detained two Indian nationals on suspicion of drug trafficking.
