A man was shot dead in Haripurwa, Sarlahi, on Friday night. The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Rampukar Yadav of Haripurwa Municipality–6, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants.
According to police, at around 8 pm on Friday, while Rampukar was sitting at home talking with neighbors, two people on a motorcycle arrived and shot him before fleeing the scene.
He sustained critical head injuries and was rushed to a health facility in Parsa, Mahottari, where doctors pronounced him dead. His body remained at the same hospital until Saturday morning. Police spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Saroj Rai informed that legal procedures were being carried out on Saturday morning, and preparations were underway to send the body to the Provincial Hospital in Malangwa for post-mortem.
According to Ward Chairperson of Haripurwa–6, Ramsogarath Rai Yadav, the victim was a farmer by occupation and also used to lend money to people in need. He had also briefly worked as a teacher at a private school in Malangwa.
DSP Rai further said that the motorcycle used by the assailants met with an accident in Haripurwa Municipality–7 later that night. One suspect sustained serious injuries and, after receiving treatment in Lalbandi, was referred to Janakpur for further care. His identity has been withheld, and police stated that he is not in a condition to speak. The other suspect remains at large.
Police have recovered the motorcycle involved in the accident and said that further investigation into the incident is underway.
