Pakistan have continued their winning run in Group A of the ICC T20 World Cup. In a competitive match held on Tuesday night, Pakistan defeated the United States by 32 runs to register their second consecutive win in the tournament.
Chasing a massive target of 191 runs set by Pakistan, the USA could only manage 158 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Shubham Ranjane scored a half-century for the USA but could not lead his team to victory. Shayan Jahangir contributed 49 runs, while Milindu Kumar added 29. For Pakistan, bowler Usman Tariq delivered a lethal spell, claiming 3 wickets to restrict the USA to a moderate total.
Earlier, after losing the toss and being invited to bat first, Pakistan posted a challenging total of 190 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Opener Sahibzada Farhan played a blistering knock, scoring a superb 73 runs off just 41 balls, including 6 fours and 5 sixes.
Apart from Farhan, captain Babar Azam played a composed innings of 46 runs off 32 balls, while Shadab Khan added a quick 30 runs from 12 balls towards the end to strengthen Pakistan’s total. For the USA, Shadley van Schalkwyk took 4 wickets, but it was not enough to stop Pakistan.
With this win, Pakistan have climbed to the top of Group A with 4 points from 2 matches. India are in second place with 2 points from one win, while the Netherlands are third with the same points but a lower net run rate. Namibia and the USA remain at the bottom of the table without any points after consecutive defeats.
Group A consists of Pakistan, India, the Netherlands, Namibia, and the USA. With two straight wins, Pakistan have significantly boosted their chances of advancing to the next stage.
