A partial lunar eclipse will occur this evening, with the Moon appearing already eclipsed as it rises at 6:04 PM, astronomers have said.
According to senior astronomer Jayant Acharya, the eclipse will be visible from various locations across Nepal. As the Moon rises above the horizon, more than half of its surface will appear covered by the Earth’s dark shadow, he explained.
He noted that witnessing the Moon rise already in an eclipsed state is considered a rare astronomical event. In Kathmandu, the Moon will rise at 6:04 PM along with the eclipse, and the phenomenon will be clearly observable for about an hour.
Astronomers have stated that no special equipment or protective glasses are required to observe a lunar eclipse. Unlike a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse does not pose any direct harm to the eyes, and it can be safely viewed with the naked eye from an open area.
