Krishnaraj Manandhar, who was trapped inside the wreckage of the bus (Ga 2 Kha 1421), was rescued alive five hours after the accident in Dhading. The bus met with an accident last night at Bhaisey Gauda in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality–5, Charaundi. Manandhar, a resident of Imadol, Lalitpur, was successfully rescued by the team after being trapped inside the crushed vehicle.
According to Superintendent of Police Sumit Khadka of the District Police Office, rescuers had to cut parts of the severely mangled bus to pull him out alive and send him to Kathmandu for treatment. He said that the lack of sufficient rescue equipment and the difficult terrain made the operation challenging and delayed the rescue.
“Passengers were screaming for help. We did not have immediate equipment to lift or cut the bus. We kept consoling him for a long time. Later, with a generator-powered machine, we cut through the silencer and rear wheel section of the bus and managed to rescue Manandhar,” SP Khadka said, adding that his condition appears stable and he has been referred to Kathmandu for further treatment.
The bus, belonging to Machhapuchhre Tours and Travels, was traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu when it crashed in Dhading. Seventeen people died on the spot, while two others succumbed to injuries during treatment. A total of 26 injured passengers are receiving treatment at various hospitals. The bodies of the deceased have been kept at Dhading Hospital and Gajuri Health Center for post-mortem examination.
