Pathibhara Yangwarak Rural Municipality and Maiwakhola Rural Municipality have advanced to the semifinals of the ongoing Kanchanjunga Seselung Gold Cup Women’s Football Tournament in Taplejung.
In the pre-quarterfinal matches held on Saturday and Sunday, both teams secured victories to book their places in the semifinals.
Pathibhara Yangwarak defeated Aathrai Tribeni Rural Municipality by 3–1, earning a strong spot in the final four. Similarly, Maiwakhola Rural Municipality secured their semifinal berth with a 2–0 win over Sirijangha Rural Municipality.
On Monday, Phungling Municipality will face Faktanglung Rural Municipality in the first pre-quarterfinal match. On Tuesday, Sidinwa and Meringden Rural Municipalities will compete, informed Chandra Thebe, President of Kanchanjunga Phungling Club. Among the nine local levels in Taplejung, only Mikwakhola Rural Municipality is not participating in the tournament.
The tournament is jointly organized by Kanchanjunga Phungling Club and Ngawarak Sangjumbho Phungling to celebrate the Limbu community’s major festival Chasok Tangnam (Nwagi).
The champion team will receive NPR 202,082, while the runner-up will earn NPR 102,082, along with trophies, medals, and certificates.
The final match of the tournament is scheduled for Mangsir 20 and is being played at the Bhanuzan Secondary School playground in Phungling.
