The government led by senior RSP leader Balen Shah has reduced the number of ministries to 16 by merging several departments. Prime Minister Shah has kept the Defense and Industry–Commerce portfolios under his own leadership, while the remaining 14 ministers were sworn in by the President.
The previously separate Ministry of Youth and Sports has been merged into the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology. This portfolio has been assigned to Sasmita Pokharel.
Similarly, the Ministry of Drinking Water has been merged with the Ministry of Health and Population, with Nisha Mehta taking responsibility.
In a first, the Ministry of Forests and Environment has been dissolved and merged into the Ministry of Agriculture. This responsibility has been given to Gita Chaudhary.
Likewise, the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation has been merged into the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration. Pratibha Rawal has been assigned to lead this combined ministry.
