Prime Minister Sushila Karki has stated that the current government is committed to adopting a national agenda focused on improving citizens’ quality of life and ensuring transparency in government operations.
Speaking at an event on Constitution Day on Friday, she said that issues such as legal equality, ending corruption, good governance, and development are common expectations of all citizens, and the government is committed to working in line with these agendas.
She said, “The development of information technology and citizen-friendly governance systems observed internationally have raised expectations among the youth regarding employment opportunities, quality of life, transparency in government operations, legal equality, ending corruption, good governance, and development. These agendas represent shared expectations and the national agenda of all generations. The government is committed to working in accordance with these agendas to meet public expectations.”
The Prime Minister also clarified that she assumed office not out of personal ambition or desire for a position, but in response to the youth’s request to manage the transitional period during the country’s crisis.
She added, “I did not become Prime Minister out of personal ambition or greed for a position. During the country’s crisis, I became the interim Prime Minister to manage the transition and, according to the Constitution of Nepal, hand over responsibility to an elected government through the House of Representatives election within six months.”
PM Karki further noted that as citizens’ needs and expectations change over time, the state must respond accordingly and move along a path of improvement. She emphasized that the current situation is a result of failing to uphold democratic values and principles, including an independent, impartial, and competent judiciary, and legal governance, and that the sentiments of the people are more multidimensional than the literal text of the Constitution.
