Prime Minister Sushila Karki has sought the support and participation of the CPN-UML to ensure the successful completion of the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for February 21. On Thursday, she invited UML leaders to Baluwatar and urged them to take part in the polls.
However, UML leaders responded that the environment for a free and fearless election has not yet been created, citing the pending case against Parliament dissolution.
According to Communication Minister Jagadish Kharel, the Prime Minister welcomed UML’s decision to register the party for election purposes and requested them to move forward by participating. He said Prime Minister Karki assured the leaders that the election would be conducted in a fair, independent, and fraud-free manner, allowing all parties to participate and citizens to vote freely. “We will create the environment. Please proceed toward the election. There is no alternative to elections,” she said.
In response, UML leaders stated that their party does not shy away from public mandate, enjoys participating in elections, and will not oppose the polls. They made it clear that if the government holds the election, UML will take part. They emphasized the need for the government to ensure a fearless and impartial election environment, signaling that UML would not be an obstacle.
UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, and Mahesh Bartaula reached Baluwatar for the discussions with the Prime Minister.
