Prime Minister Sushila Karki has decided not to receive tika and jamara during this year’s Bada Dashain festival. The decision comes as a gesture of respect to the many young people who lost their lives during the recent Gen Z-led movement.
In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Secretariat on Monday, it was announced that the Prime Minister will not participate in the traditional tika and jamara rituals and has urged citizens across the country to refrain from doing so this year. The statement reads:
“Although Bada Dashain is celebrated each year with great joy, the recent sacrifices of many youths during the movement remain fresh in our hearts. Therefore, the Right Honorable Prime Minister has decided not to receive tika and jamara this Dashain and calls upon all Nepalis to refrain from such celebrations as well.”
Despite this, Prime Minister Karki extended her best wishes to all Nepalis at home and abroad on the occasion of Dashain, urging people to strengthen the spirit of national unity and tolerance.
Meanwhile, the Secretariat also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to holding the House of Representatives elections on the scheduled date, stating:
“To strengthen the democratic process and honor the people’s mandate, the government remains committed to conducting the elections as scheduled.”
