Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Chairman of the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre) and former Prime Minister, has highlighted the urgent need for strong unity among all democratic, republican, and reform-minded forces in the country.
On the occasion of Constitution Day, he extended his greetings and stated that the only alternative to democracy is a more advanced form of democracy. He emphasized that protecting the Constitution and democracy is a shared duty of all Nepalis to safeguard the nation’s independence.
Referring to the recent Janjagaran (JENJI) movement, Prachanda noted that the times demand expansion and amendment of the Constitution to ensure continuity. He called on all party members and the public to engage in nationwide reconstruction as the highest priority. He also demanded that the government form an independent, impartial, and high-level inquiry commission into the events of Bhadra 23 and 24, and hold the guilty accountable.
Chairman Dahal added, “I believe the Janjagaran movement was not against democracy, but opposed the status quo and temporary governance system, supporting an advanced democracy. Nevertheless, the events of Bhadra 23 and 24 cannot be seen from a single perspective. The movement on Bhadra 23 was the true Janjagaran movement.”
