Coordinator of the ‘Save Nation, Nationality, Religion-Culture and Citizens’ Mega Campaign, Durga Prasai, has warned that his campaign will not be responsible if anyone faces vandalism or arson for violating the Nepal bandh (general strike) announced from November 22 (Mangsir 7).
Speaking to the media after a discussion with officials of the National Human Rights Commission on Wednesday, Prasai said their protest would be peaceful, but anyone who defies the shutdown must take personal responsibility for the consequences.
“Our movement is not about carrying guns or explosives, setting Singha Durbar on fire, or vandalizing citizens’ homes and businesses,” Prasai said. “However, if tomorrow during the bandh from Mechi in the east to Mahakali in the west someone violates it, opens shops, and incidents of vandalism, vehicle damage, or arson occur, our campaign will not be accountable for that,” he added.
He further clarified that their protest would not be similar to the ‘JEN-JI movement’. According to him, the protest that took place last Bhadra 23 and 24 was genuine for only the first two hours but was later hijacked by foreign forces to topple the government.
“The movement of Bhadra 23 and 24 belonged to JEN-JI for only two hours. After that, it went into foreign hands and became a power-grabbing game. Our movement will not be like that,” he said.
