President Ram Chandra Paudel has said that Nepal needs development that can improve people’s quality of life and bring happiness to their faces.
Speaking at the inauguration of the newly constructed administrative building of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, he said that efficient service delivery and good governance are essential to ensure citizens’ satisfaction.
He stressed that political leadership must transform itself according to the aspirations of the new generation. “Democracy is not only a governing system; it is a culture and practice of listening to the people and working according to their needs. It also demands integrity and character dedicated to public welfare,” he said. “Only leadership and public representatives who understand this spirit can bring visible development, ensure citizens’ happiness, and build trust in the system.”
He highlighted that the Constitution grants significant authority and responsibility to local governments in development and service delivery. Since local governments are the closest to the people, their services and governance directly shape public trust in the system, the President noted.
He added that local governments must prioritize fulfilling citizens’ needs and aspirations.
“Development today means not only building infrastructure but improving citizens’ living standards and ensuring their happiness. For this, effective service delivery and good governance are crucial,” President Paudel said. “Understanding the expectations of the new generation and transforming leadership accordingly is our shared responsibility.”
President Paudel further emphasized the importance of democratic practices such as listening to people’s grievances, dissatisfaction, and demands by reaching out to them at their doorsteps.
