President Ramchandra Paudel has departed for Nepal from Doha, the capital of Qatar, after participating in the Second World Summit for Social Development. He had arrived in Qatar on Tuesday to attend the international event.
At Hamad International Airport, President Paudel was seen off by Nepal’s Ambassador to Qatar, Ramesh Chandra Paudel, and senior officials from Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nepali Embassy.
President Paudel led the Nepali delegation to the summit, which was organized at the invitation of Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. He addressed the main session of the summit on Tuesday, which was held in accordance with the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly.
Additionally, President Paudel spoke at a high-level roundtable on strengthening the three pillars of social development — poverty eradication, full and productive employment and decent work for all, and social inclusion.
During his visit, President Paudel also held a courtesy meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and visited the Qatar National Museum on Wednesday.
The first World Summit for Social Development was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1995. The Doha summit discussed key global challenges such as development inequalities, demographic imbalances, and the social impacts of technological change.
Nepal, currently serving as the Chair of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), has remained a committed member of the UN in promoting peace and stability since joining the organization. President Paudel was accompanied by First Lady Sabita Paudel and other members of the Nepali delegation during the visit.
