President Ramchandra Paudel will participate in the 2nd World Summit for Social Development, scheduled to be held in Doha, Qatar, from November 3 to 5 (Kartik 18–20).
According to Foreign Ministry Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, President Paudel will lead a 12-member Nepali delegation to the summit at the invitation of Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. He will depart for Qatar on November 2 (Kartik 17) for this official visit. President Paudel is scheduled to address the main session of the summit on November 3 (Kartik 18).
The summit, held under the guidance of the United Nations General Assembly, is considered highly significant for member states. Speaking at a press conference, Secretary Rai emphasized the importance and prestige of Nepal’s participation in this second summit, held 30 years after the first, which took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1995.
During the summit, President Paudel is expected to meet with Qatar’s Emir and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, along with other distinguished personalities. Discussions at the conference will focus on global development inequalities, population imbalances, and social impacts of technology from multiple perspectives. “The summit will demonstrate shared commitment to cooperation and collaboration for social development,” Secretary Rai said.
Nepal, a UN member since 1955, has remained an active and committed participant for peace and stability, and as the current chair of the UN Economic and Social Council, Nepal’s participation carries special significance.
After completing the official visit in Qatar, President Paudel is scheduled to return to Nepal on November 5 (Kartik 20).
