Dim Prakash Paudel, Chair of Agricultural Development Bank, is facing growing pressure to resign from his position immediately.
The pressure comes after Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) urged individuals appointed through political connections to step down and make way for new leadership. Following this call, Paudel has been under increasing scrutiny.
Paudel was appointed as chair during the tenure of Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (UML), reportedly due to his affiliation with the party. His appointment had previously drawn criticism, with accusations that he secured the role based on political loyalty rather than merit.
Despite the criticism, Paudel continued in his position, allegedly showing confidence that his political backing would shield him from consequences. However, the recent stance taken by RSP has intensified pressure on him to resign.
RSP has also indicated that if politically appointed officials refuse to step down voluntarily, the incoming government may remove them from their positions. This move has reportedly created unease among individuals affiliated with both UML and the Nepali Congress who were appointed to various roles based on political influence rather than qualifications.
The Agricultural Development Bank has previously been seen as having strong influence from UML. Even the bank’s CEO is considered close to UML leader Prithvi Subba Gurung. There have also been allegations that loans were issued under political influence, potentially creating conflicts of interest.
