Prime Minister Sushila Karki today met a delegation from the Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar.
During the meeting, the delegation invited Prime Minister Karki to attend the Tharu National Maghi Festival. The invitation letter for the event, scheduled to be held at Tundikhel on Magh 1, was handed over by the chief coordinator of the main organizing committee and Chairperson of the Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha, Premilal Chaudhary.
On the occasion, Chairperson Chaudhary urged the Prime Minister to address the demands and issues of the Tharu community. He expressed concern that even after ten years of the promulgation of the Constitution, reservation for Tharus in the civil service has not been ensured.
Prime Minister Karki stated that no one should obstruct the implementation of rights guaranteed by the Constitution and laws. She said that she was concerned about why constitutionally guaranteed rights were being hindered and emphasized that such rights must be implemented without obstruction.
She further said that the country is a shared garden for all communities and that fair representation of all communities in the state is essential. According to her, development can only be sustainable when it is achieved through inclusive representation.
The Tharu community celebrates the Maghi festival every year on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti.
