The Prithvi Highway will remain closed for four hours daily starting today until Mangsir 11. The section at Vijaypur Khola in Pokhara will be shut down due to the launching of a new girder for the bridge under construction, and motorists are requested to use alternative routes.
According to the Muglin–Pokhara Road Project (Western Section), the highway will be closed from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM and again from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
Project Chief Krishna Bahadur Kunwar said that the road will be fully or partially closed for four hours each day, urging vehicles entering or exiting Pokhara via the Prithvi Highway to use alternative routes. Depending on the situation, queued vehicles may be allowed to pass every 30 minutes.
He added that vehicles traveling from Pokhara to Talchowk via Vijaypur—and vice versa—will be completely restricted during the work, and coordination with all concerned for traffic management has been requested. Drivers are advised to travel through the designated alternative routes during the specified hours.
For two-wheelers and small vehicles, the Muglin–Pokhara Road Project has arranged a two-way alternative route from Budhibazar to Belchautara and then to Chaunthe.
Similarly, for larger vehicles, a two-way route from Lekhnath’s Powerhouse Chowk through Bagmara to Birauta has been arranged.
The Prithvi Highway, which connects the tourist capital Pokhara with the federal capital Kathmandu, is being upgraded under the Muglin–Pokhara Road Project.
The project has been divided into two sections. While most of the eastern section—from Jamune to Aanbukhaireni—has been completed, the western section—from Pokhara to Jamune—has achieved 59.76 percent physical progress so far, Kunwar said.
Out of the 38.88 km western section, 37.4 km has been blacktopped on one side. Of this, 29.61 km has been upgraded to four lanes and 7.79 km to two lanes.
He also stated that 11 out of 12 bridges in this section have already been completed, with the bridge over the Seti River still under construction. (RSS)
