The Election Commission has clarified that any candidate included in the proportional representation (PR) closed list for the House of Representatives election can withdraw their name within the prescribed timeline. In such cases, the concerned political party is allowed to nominate another candidate as a replacement.
The Commission had received PR nominations from 64 political parties on Poush 13 and 14 for the upcoming election on Falgun 21. These submissions are currently under verification. According to Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the Commission will review whether the lists comply with legal requirements for inclusivity and notify the concerned parties by Poush 20. The parties must then submit corrected lists by Poush 27.
Candidates from the revised lists who wish to withdraw will be given time on Poush 28. The Commission will inform the parties about any withdrawal, after which the parties may nominate another candidate in their place. The final closed list will be published on Magh 4.
If any objections regarding the legal eligibility of the candidates arise, they will be investigated, and the final list of candidates will be published on Magh 20. After this publication, no further changes to the list will be allowed.
