Starting today, the government has opened route permits for all public passenger vehicles across Nepal to ensure smooth transportation during the upcoming festival season.
According to Vijay Bahadur Swar, President of the National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs, public transport vehicles can now operate on their chosen routes without obtaining a specific route permit until the end of the festive travel period. However, vehicles that are restricted on certain roads due to their size or the nature of the route will still face existing bans.
The temporary relaxation of route permits will remain in effect until Ashoj 22 (October 8). Passengers are required to purchase tickets while traveling on public transport, the federation emphasized.
To ease festival travel and reduce road congestion, the government has already decided to ban the movement of large trailers and heavy cargo vehicles, except those transporting food and essential goods, on the Narayanghat–Kathmandu route from today until the full moon day.
