Qatar’s Ambassador to Nepal, Meshal Mohammed Ali Al Ansari, met with Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav on Wednesday at the Vice President’s Office in Lainchaur.
According to the Vice President’s Secretariat, the meeting included an exchange of greetings and discussions on Nepal–Qatar bilateral relations, cooperation in multilateral and regional forums, labor and migration issues, trade, and other areas of mutual interest.
Vice President Yadav expressed satisfaction over the strong and friendly Nepal–Qatar ties, which have steadily developed on the foundation of friendship, mutual respect, trust, and cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1977. He noted that both nations, as members of the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement, have maintained commendable cooperation in various multilateral and regional platforms.
Highlighting recent high-level exchanges that have further strengthened bilateral ties, Yadav mentioned that nearly 365,000 Nepali workers are currently employed in Qatar. He thanked the Qatari government for providing employment opportunities and acknowledged the contribution of Nepali workers to Qatar’s economy, as well as their support to families back home and Nepal’s national economy. “The Government of Nepal is committed to ensuring safe and dignified foreign employment,” he said.
Vice President Yadav also expressed gratitude to the Amir of Qatar for granting “Amiri Pardon” to Nepali detainees during Ramadan and Eid in 2025. He added that as Nepal aims to graduate from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) category by 2026 and become a middle-income country by 2030, increased investment and support from friendly nations, including Qatar, will be essential.
He emphasized that direct air connectivity between Nepal and Qatar will help promote tourism and expand trade, stressing the need to make Kathmandu–Doha direct flights more effective. Nepal’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and warm hospitality make it an attractive destination for Qatari tourists, he said.
On the occasion of Qatar National Day, Vice President Yadav extended heartfelt congratulations to the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, and the people of Qatar through the Ambassador, wishing them peace, progress, and prosperity.
During the meeting, Ambassador Al Ansari noted the long-standing and strong relationship between Nepal and Qatar and informed that Qatar recently released 30 Nepali prisoners at the request of the Government of Nepal.
