Rabi Lamichhane, chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has said that his party did not betray the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).
Speaking to journalists after a parliamentary party meeting at Singha Durbar, Lamichhane responded to concerns raised by RPP lawmaker Gyan Bahadur Shahi, who had expressed dissatisfaction, claiming that RSP had let RPP down in the Deputy Speaker election.
In response, Lamichhane said political dialogue is natural and discussions with various parties are part of the process. “Why shouldn’t there be discussions when there are possibilities? We have had conversations with all parties. Rather than calling it betrayal, sometimes when the time comes to make the right decision at the last moment, other factors may also come into play. There is nothing like betrayal here,” he said.
Lamichhane further added that there is still plenty of room for future cooperation. “Gyanendraji is a very good friend of mine and will always remain so. We still have many opportunities for political collaboration ahead. One Magh does not end the winter,” he remarked.
