Kathmandu: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has successfully concluded its three-day Central Committee meeting held on Mangsir 24, 25, and 26 in Dhumbarahi under the chairmanship of Chairperson Rajendra Lingden, issuing a total of 13 major decisions.
Key decisions and highlights from the meeting include:
- Analysis of the September 23–24 Jenej (youth) uprising: RPP identified the uprising as a product of longstanding political flaws—corruption, unemployment, partisan influence over constitutional bodies, and the consequences of power-centric foreign relations—which have persisted since the democratic changes of 2046 BS. The party emphasized that the revolt was neither unexpected nor unprecedented, and revealed the weaknesses of the state apparatus and political leadership.
- Restoration of the monarchy: RPP reaffirmed its position that a constitutional monarchy should be restored through national consensus, not via referendum or bloodshed. The monarchy would be a shared institution for the nation, established by agreement rather than majority-minority decision-making, to avoid instability.
- Approval of internal reports: Secretariat, financial, membership, and general convention reports were unanimously approved, with the general convention election schedule maintained until the end of Magh, and remaining programs to be finalized post-election.
- Public engagement campaigns: RPP will organize nationwide dialogues and demonstrations in Poush to raise public pressure and build consensus among the monarchy, political parties, and youth for national solutions before the general elections.
- Election participation stance: While elections are scheduled for Falgun 21, RPP maintains that holding elections without addressing political issues and youth demands will not bring solutions. The party, however, remains committed to participating as a responsible political actor, advancing convention, organization-building, and election preparation simultaneously.
- Investigation into Pokhara Regional Airport corruption: RPP welcomes the ACC’s active role in investigating irregularities during airport construction, urging continuation of the investigation and action against other pending corruption cases to ensure good governance.
- Government-Jenej agreement: RPP noted that the signed agreement did not reflect a unified youth perspective, highlighting its incompleteness. Constitutional amendments should ensure representation of public opinion on republic, secularism, and federalism.
- Voting arrangements for Nepali abroad: RPP demands inter-district voting access for Nepali abroad and within the country, ensuring the election process is inclusive.
- Condemnation of Jenej crackdown: The party expressed deep sorrow over the death of 76 innocent youth during the Jenej crackdown, extending condolences to bereaved families and demanding proper treatment, compensation, and recovery for the injured.
- Restoration of damaged properties: RPP called for rapid reconstruction of damaged government, private, and political properties and fair compensation for personal and business losses during the Jenej uprising.
- Approval of previous committee decisions: All prior Central Executive Committee meeting decisions were ratified.
- Eligibility for general convention representation: Party members must submit receipts for levies paid to be eligible as convention representatives; those who fail to comply will have their representation automatically annulled.
- Disciplinary action: Madhesh Province proportional female MP Kanchan Bichha, who joined the government against party directives, has been suspended from general membership for six months and removed from the provincial female proportional list.
These decisions reflect RPP’s strategy to address national political issues, election preparedness, and organizational strengthening while maintaining its positions on monarchy restoration, youth representation, and governance accountability.
