The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) staged a protest against corruption and misgovernance at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Saturday. RPP leaders and cadres gathered wearing black T-shirts printed with the slogan “Corruption is like drinking a mother’s blood,” symbolizing their strong opposition to corruption.
The demonstrators demanded action against corrupt officials, the abolition of the provincial system, the reinstatement of the monarchy, the re-declaration of Nepal as a Hindu nation, the rewriting of the constitution, and the introduction of a directly elected prime minister. Placards carried during the protest also called for honoring the sacrifice of 75 martyrs, initiating a new political understanding to save the country from disaster, punishing those responsible for the killings during the Gen-Z movement, and investigating the wealth of high-ranking officials who rose to power after 1990.
RPP leaders expressed solidarity with the families of those who died in the Gen-Z movement and with the youths who fought for change. Speaking at the protest, RPP leader Khumbu Oli said the party had taken to the streets to end widespread corruption and social distortions. She accused political leaders of attempting to suppress the Gen-Z movement by reasserting their power.
Oli warned the interim government not to go against the spirit of the Gen-Z revolution or ignore the blood of the martyrs. She criticized the government for failing to take action against those who ordered the crackdown on the Gen-Z protests and for not forming a commission to investigate corruption, holding it accountable for betraying the movement’s ideals.
