Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Senior Vice President Rabindra Mishra has emphasized the urgent need for a credible and strong center-right political party in Nepal.
Mishra remarked that from old to new political forces and even civil society, most have become “Prachandist,” referring to their ideological alignment with Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda.’ He stated that although Nepal is fundamentally a center-right society, far-left and center-left ideologies have been imposed on the nation.
Writing on social media, Mishra said,
“From being an extremist, Prachanda has come to the center but has remained at the heart of leftist politics for the last 30 years. He has made all political parties and civil society—old and new—‘Prachandist.’ Ironically, all these Prachandists do not stop criticizing him, while struggling to prove they are greater revolutionaries than him.”
Mishra argued that every political system requires both strong center-left and center-right forces to maintain balance.
He added,
“The sad reality is that while Nepal’s society is center-right by nature, it does not have a single credible and strong center-right party. This has left the nation confused and ideologically inconsistent. The greatest challenge for RPP, even after 35 years, is to prove that we are that credible and strong center-right party.”
Mishra further stated that the pressing national issue is how to build a trusted, center-right political party based on “Prithvi Path”—the path of unity and nationalism inspired by King Prithvi Narayan Shah—to save and strengthen the country. He urged political actors to rise above personal egos and interests to seriously reflect on this necessity.
“Otherwise, in the absence of a credible and strong center-right party, the country, society, and politics will be engulfed by distorted and toxic leftism, leading to a crisis of national existence,” Mishra warned.
