Chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, has been released on bail. Following the order of the Butwal bench of the High Court, Tulsipur, and after completing the required legal formalities, he was released from the Rupandehi District Prison this evening.
Lamichhane had traveled by air from Kathmandu to Bharatpur and then by road to Rupandehi, arriving at around 5:45 PM. He was initially kept at the Rupandehi prison but was later transferred to Nakhu Prison in Lalitpur at his own request.
He was released after submitting a bail amount of NPR 27,484,000 (two crore seventy-four lakh eighty-four thousand) as bank guarantee. As Lamichhane arrived at the Bhairahawa prison and following his release, RSP leaders, cadres, and supporters celebrated by chanting slogans.
Lamichhane had been in judicial custody in connection with a case related to embezzlement of funds and organized crime involving the Supreme Savings and Credit Cooperative in Butwal. A bench comprising High Court judges Vasudev Acharya and Tej Narayan Paudel had ordered his release on bail.
