Renowned dancer Sita Subedi passed away this morning at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. Known for creating a unique identity through dancing on one leg, Sita had been battling lung cancer for the past three months and had been on a ventilator for one month before her death at 6:30 a.m.
Originally from Chitwan, Sita dreamed of establishing herself through dance from a young age. However, at the age of 12, she was diagnosed with cancer, which led to the amputation of one of her legs.
After completing her School Leaving Certificate (SLC), Sita pursued dance using her single leg. She first performed on stage at Padmakanya Campus and gradually showcased her talent at various local festivals, fairs, and international platforms.
In 2019, she performed in South Korea on International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and on January 11, 2020, she performed at the “Visit Nepal” program in Seoul.
Sita also excelled in beauty pageants, winning titles including the Management Choice Award at Mrs. Nepal World and the ‘Mrs. Nepal International 2023’ crown.
Her life was a testament to resilience, famously described as “Danced all day despite losing a leg,” reflecting her unwavering determination to stand and perform on one leg despite immense challenges.
