Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairperson Rajendra Lingden has said that the decision to hold elections on Falgun 21 will push the country toward greater complications rather than providing a way out.
Addressing the meeting of the RPP Central Working Committee in Kathmandu on Wednesday, he remarked that holding midterm elections on Falgun 21 by relying on what he called a “failed constitution” and continuing with the same electoral system would not bring solutions but instead add new complexities.
He said, “The country is moving forward amid an unusual and difficult situation. After such a massive revolt and destruction, the change the nation deserved has been reduced merely to replacing one prime minister with another. Again, by sticking to the same failed constitution and the same electoral system, deciding to hold midterm elections on Falgun 21 does not offer an exit or solution. It will only create further complications and push the existing problems a little further down the road.”
Lingden added that it has now become clear that elections in the current situation or under the status quo will not solve the nation’s problems.
He also claimed that at a time when some political parties have become extremely unpopular among the people—so much so that they have even changed their traditional party names in an attempt to regain public trust—RPP remains the only party capable of safeguarding the country’s sovereignty.
