Lawmakers from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) boycotted the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday, continuing their demand for a parliamentary probe into the visit visa case.
Both parties’ lawmakers walked out after expressing their views in the chamber. Earlier, as soon as the session began, they stood up to register their protest.
Speaker Devraj Ghimire then gave RSP lawmaker Chanda Karki the floor. Karki said the government must understand public sentiment and form a parliamentary committee to investigate the visit visa issue. She remarked that while the chairperson of the State Affairs Committee had shown moral responsibility, the Home Minister had failed to do so. She also accused the Home Minister of interfering with the judiciary and urged the Prime Minister to show courage by investigating the assets of government ministers.
Similarly, RPP lawmaker Dhruv Bahadur Pradhan declared that the protest would continue until a parliamentary investigation committee is formed. He stressed that even in cases where officials resigned on moral grounds, investigations should still be carried out.
RSP and RPP lawmakers have been staging continuous protests in the House for more than two months, pressing for the formation of a high-level probe committee into the visit visa case.
