Under the House of Representatives election, the final result of Kathmandu Constituency No. 8 has been announced, where a candidate from the Rastriya Swatantra Party secured a landslide victory.
Shrestha won the seat with 24,592 votes, defeating his closest rival by a margin of more than 21,000 votes.
In a striking outcome, all other candidates—including those from major and traditional political parties—failed to secure enough votes to retain their election deposits.
According to election law, any candidate who fails to secure at least 10 percent of the total valid votes in a constituency forfeits their deposit. Based on the total votes cast in Kathmandu-8, even the second-placed candidate could not cross the required 10 percent threshold, resulting in the forfeiture of deposits for all 21 defeated candidates.
Suman Sayami of the Nepal Communist Party finished second with 3,217 votes. Sapana Rajbhandari of the Nepali Congress received 2,835 votes.
Similarly, Rajesh Shakya of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) and Nabin Shahi of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party each received 1,909 votes. Rajan Khadgi of the Ujyalo Nepal Party secured 1,033 votes.
None of the candidates from major parties managed to reach the 10 percent threshold required to save their deposits. Candidates from smaller parties and independent contenders performed even more poorly in the race.
