Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Balen Shah has arrived in Tehrathum as part of his election campaign. Shah, who is a candidate for the House of Representatives from Jhapa-5, met local voters at Myanglung Devithan in Tehrathum.
During interactions with locals, Shah said he wanted to understand Tehrathum not just through papers or books but through direct experience. “You can read about Tehrathum on Wikipedia or learn from books,” he said, “but only by coming here, feeling the climate, sitting on this soil, and meeting the people can one truly understand what this place is like. I came here so that when I raise Tehrathum’s issues tomorrow, I speak with firsthand knowledge.”
He emphasized that RSP leaders and candidates come from engineering backgrounds and stressed the importance of prioritizing practical and achievable work at the local level. “Instead of talking big, let’s focus on what can be done,” Shah said, adding that although agricultural production in Tehrathum is good, market access remains a major challenge.
RSP Tehrathum candidate Surendra Karki also participated in the interaction program. Shah said the visit was aimed at directly understanding local problems and incorporating them into policies and plans.
Shah, who is contesting from Jhapa-5, has been actively campaigning across various districts of eastern Nepal. Prior to Tehrathum, he had visited different areas of Ilam, Taplejung, and Panchthar.
