The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), having won 125 seats in the direct election, is projected to gain 57 seats under the proportional representation (PR) system. Based on the “Saint-Laguë formula” used by the Election Commission Nepal for seat allocation, the current vote counts indicate RSP will secure 57 proportional seats.
If this seat count holds, RSP would fall two seats short of a two-thirds majority in the 275-member House of Representatives. With 57 proportional seats added to its direct wins, RSP would hold 182 seats. A two-thirds majority requires 184 seats. One independent lawmaker, Mahavir Pun projected to receive seats:
- Nepali Congress, the second-largest party, is projected to gain 20 proportional seats. With 18 direct seats, Congress would have a total of 38 seats in the House, a significant drop from its previous 89-seat tally. Congress received 1,754,052 proportional votes.
- Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (CPN-UML) is projected to gain 16 proportional seats. With 9 direct seats, its total will be 25 seats, much lower than its previous 79-seat strength. CPN-UML’s proportional votes dropped by 50 percent compared to the last election, totaling 1,451,759 votes.
- Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is projected to gain 9 proportional seats. Combined with 8 direct seats, NCP will have 16 seats. The party secured 808,582 proportional votes.
- Shram Sanskriti Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party are each projected to gain 4 proportional seats. Shram Sanskriti also won 3 direct seats, giving it a total of 7 seats, while Rastriya Prajatantra Party won 1 direct seat, bringing its total to 5 seats.
The Election Commission Nepal has completed the counting of proportional votes, and the seat allocation process will now proceed. Seats will be distributed based on valid votes received by each party. Following allocation, the commission will notify the respective parties within three days to recommend names from their closed proportional lists.
The commission will then verify the recommendations and issue certificates of election to the proportional representatives once the process is finalized.
