The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has stated that a letter allegedly sent to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi bearing the joint signatures of party president Rabi Lamichhane and senior leader Balen Shah is completely fake and fabricated.
Issuing a statement on Thursday, the party expressed serious concern over news circulated by Nepal Press and some other media outlets, as well as on social media platforms, regarding the alleged letter.
RSP clarified that the publicly circulated letter is entirely false and said that linking the names of responsible individuals to such a sensitive matter as bilateral relations is highly condemnable. The party claimed that the sponsored propaganda appears to have been spread with the intention of gaining political advantage ahead of the general election scheduled for Falgun 21 and of creating unnecessary suspicion in Nepal–India relations.
The party has urged journalists, reporters, and media houses to conduct thorough fact-checking before publishing news on such sensitive issues. It also appealed to the general public not to be misled by fake news and misleading propaganda circulating on social media.
Furthermore, the statement mentioned that the attention of concerned authorities has been drawn to initiate legal action against those involved in such undesirable activities.
