Mamata Sharma, the founding chair of Madhes Province of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, has joined the Nepali Congress.
She entered the Nepali Congress during a manifesto assembly organized by the party in Dhanusha on Wednesday. Party President Gagan Kumar Thapa welcomed her into the party by draping a ceremonial khada around her shoulders.
Addressing the gathering, Sharma remarked that the Rastriya Swatantra Party had already become like the “old Congress.” She claimed that the Nepali Congress has emerged renewed and stronger under leadership and policies shaped through its special general convention.
Sharma had earlier resigned from the Rastriya Swatantra Party on Wednesday morning, giving up even her ordinary membership. She alleged financial irregularities in the selection of candidates for the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21.
