Scotland registered an easy victory over Italy in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, defeating them by 73 runs in the Group C match played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Monday.
Chasing a daunting target of 208 runs, Italy were bowled out for 134 runs in 16.4 overs.
For Italy, Ben Manenti top-scored with 52 runs, while Harry Manenti contributed 37, JJ Smuts added 22, and Anthony Mosca scored 13 runs. In bowling, Scotland’s Michael Leask was the standout performer, claiming four wickets. Mark Watt took two wickets, while Bradley Currie, Bradley Wheal, and Oliver Davidson picked up one wicket each.
Earlier, after losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Scotland posted an impressive total of 207 runs for the loss of four wickets in their allotted 20 overs. George Munsey led the batting with a brilliant 84 runs. Brandon McMullen remained unbeaten on 41, Michael Jones scored 37, Michael Leask added 22, and captain Richie Berrington chipped in with 15 runs.
For Italy, Ali Hassan, Grant Stewart, Thomas Draca, and JJ Smuts took one wicket each.
With this win, Scotland have collected two points from two matches in Group C. England and West Indies also have two points each in the group. In a thrilling match played on Sunday, two-time world champions England edged past Nepal by four runs. West Indies had earlier defeated Scotland, while Nepal and Italy began their World Cup campaigns with defeats.
