Senior Nepali Congress leader Amod Prasad Upadhyay has passed away. A resident of Biratnagar, Morang, Upadhyay died while undergoing treatment at HAMS Hospital in Kathmandu.
Upadhyay became a member of the National Assembly in 1994 (2051 BS). He served as Minister for Education and Sports from 1999 to 2001 (2056–2058 BS). He was elected to the House of Representatives from Morang Constituency No. 1 in the 1999 parliamentary elections and was also active in the reinstated Legislature-Parliament.
During his political struggle, Upadhyay was arrested multiple times and spent time in prison. He also endured a period of exile in the course of his political life.
