Police have detained seven individuals from Malamighat in Ratuwamai Municipality-7 of Morang district following information about preparations for gambling.
A police team led by Inspector Kailash Limbu from Area Police Office Sijuwa reached a house near Malami River around 11:30 PM on Sunday, where about 50–60 people had gathered. Although most tried to flee upon the arrival of the police, seven individuals were taken into custody for inquiry and inspection.
According to police, although gambling materials were not found directly with the detainees, a search of the surroundings revealed gambling-related items, including powder used for cowrie shells, 15 cowrie shells wrapped in a cloth, one deck of playing cards, and one inverter hidden in the house beam. Police also confiscated Rs. 65,650 Nepali currency and INR 2,500 from the detainees.
Those arrested have been identified as Buddhiman Basnet, Deviprasad Prasai, Laxmi Prasad Mainali, Om Bhattarai, Ratna Bahadur Karki, Birendra Sah, and Vivek Sah. They have been kept at the Area Police Office Sijuwa for further investigation.
